In a statement released on the club’s official website, it was confirmed that Giroud – who was not called up by Didier Deschamps for France’s World Cup qualifying fixtures – returned a positive result after being rested at home, but has not had any contact with other Milan players since the club’s 4-1 win over Cagliari last weekend, where he bagged the first two goals of his stint in Italy.

Stefano Pioli to shift tactical plans

The news will hardly be greeted with elation by boss Stefano Pioli ahead of the Rossoneri‘s matchday one clash with Liverpool on Wednesday the 15th of September at Anfield; the first time the two clubs have met in Europe since the 2006-07 Champions League final, where Milan avenged their shock loss against the Reds in the showpiece in Istanbul two seasons prior.

Pioli had hinted at the opportunity to toy with Milan’s tactical schematics since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to training after a knee injury, and was considering using the Swedish icon in tandem with Giroud in a bid to utilize his key forwards simultaneously.

Giroud has started brightly in another chapter of his career after his time at Chelsea came to an end after last season, already cementing himself as an important piece of the puzzle at the San Siro, and leading the line in both of the club’s Serie A wins to start the 2021-22 domestic campaign.
