“The new generation”
Bayern Munich have announced the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann from RB Leipzig on a 5-year contract which commences at the end of the current season.
Nagelsmann rose to prominence in the Bundesliga as its youngest ever coach at Hoffenheim before leading RB Leipzig to a Champions League semi-final last season.
He has turned the side into a title challenger and Bayern believe that he can consolidate the club’s dominance in Europe and Germany for years to come.
âJulian Nagelsmann stands for a new generation of trainers. Despite his young age, he has had an impressive career. We are convinced that with Julian Nagelsmann we will build on the great successes of the past few years, â said club President Herbert Hainer.
Former Bayern keeper and now board member Oliver Kahn said that the length of the deal was a display of the connection Nagelsmann shared with the club.
âJulian’s five-year contract alone shows how much he identifies with FC Bayern. I am convinced that we will shape the sporting future of FC Bayern very successfully together with Julian Nagelsmann,â said the ex-stopper.
Nagelsmann replaces Hansi Flick who will join the German national team when Joachim Low steps down after the European Championships.
Spurs miss out, Ten Hag next
Bayern Munich were not the only club looking at getting a new coach, and specifically the Leipzig man Nagelsmann, as Tottenham Hotspur were looking towards the young manager to be the replacement of Jose Mourinho.
Daniel Levy and the club will now need to look in a different direction and reports suggest they could have found their new target already with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag the man in the spotlight.
Ten Hag has spoken numerous times about his future this season and remains resolute in his focus on building a side that can compete in Europe.
âI am concerned with Ajax and not with other developments. I still have a contract for one year and am really enjoying myself here. We are building a team that is ready to compete with the big teams in Europe,” he said.
Ten Hag took Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 where they were eliminated by Tottenham in the final moments.
With just one year left on his deal, Spurs would not need to pay a significant compensation fee, especially considering the financial hit taken by relieving Mourinho of his services.
