Mikel Arteta provides key update on Bukayo Saka’s new Arsenal contract

Mikel Arteta has been speaking about the possibility of Bukayo Saka signing a new Arsenal contract.

Arsenal are working on a deal to tie Bukayo Saka down to a new contract.

The forward’s current deal runs until 2024 and the club will be eager to avoid it heading into the final 12 months.

However, Mikel Arteta admits that he is “very confident” about the 20-year-old committing his future to the club.

“I am very confident”

Saka looks set to sign a new Arsenal contract, with the club, player, family and agent all aligned over the matter, according to Arteta.

The Spanish coach admits he is keen for the issue to be resolved quickly to avoid it becoming a distraction.

Arteta said: “I am very confident that we as a club and Bukayo and his family and agent are all aligned and now it’s about putting that on a piece of paper.

Arsenal’s transfer plans

Meanwhile, in regards to new additions, Arteta is keeping his cards close to his chest.

When asked about whether the start of the Gunners’ season had impacted the club’s transfer plans, the Arsenal boss said:

“No. We are still in the same position. The market gives you a lot of information.

“We are focusing on the players that we have now.”
