Chelsea chasing deadline day deal for Rafael Leao in audacious swoop

The AC Milan star has a massive release clause

Chelsea have turned to AC Milan forward Rafael Leao as they look to strengthen their frontline before the 11pm deadline on September 1st, with other targets looking increasingly unlikely.

The Blues have added Raheem Sterling to their attack already this season, but have scored just 6 goals in their opening 5 games of the season, and are looking largely toothless in the final third at present, with neither Mason Mount nor Kai Havertz having registered a goal or an assist thus far.

And, while they have been linked with moves for Neymar and Wilfried Zaha, it is thought that both players will be staying at their respective clubs this summer.

After the draw with Brentford, Crystal Palace boss said: “When you look at his smile when he scored that goal, it says everything. The smile on his face tells you how much he loves this football club”, before adding that “I’m working with him every day and there is no doubt, there is nothing crossing my mind that something like that will happen”, when asked about a potential switch to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang suffered a broken jaw in a robbery, and that has cast doubts over a potential move this summer rather than in January/

As a result, the Times report that they have made a move for AC Milan forward Leao, who was Serie A MVP last season and is thought to have a release clause of around 150m euros.

“Chelsea want to sign a midfielder and a striker before the transfer window closes on Thursday after the weaknesses in their squad were exposed in the 2-1 defeat by Southampton on Tuesday night,” they add.

It seems unlikely that AC Milan will sell their star man with just one day to replace him unless astonishing money is offered, but it has been shown already that the Blues are no strangers to splashing the cash this summer.
