St Johnstone vs Heart of Midlothian match preview

Ahead of some huge European fixtures later this month, will Heart of Midlothian make a winning start to the new Premiership season?

Last time round, Hearts finished fourth, one place lower than a year earlier, with Robbie Neilson sacked in early-April, Steven Naismith initially taking over as caretaker.

However, after the Jambos lost just one of their final six fixture, Naismith has been given the job permanently.

Hearts enter the Europa Conference League in the third qualifying round, taking on Norwegian giants Rosenborg, with the first leg at Lerkendal Stadion in just five days time.

Ahead of their visit to Trondheim, will Hearts kick off the season with three points in Perth?

St Johnstone meantime are coming into the campaign with trepidation, following a catastrophic League Cup campaign.

Last season, legendary manager Callum Davidson was sacked in April, with the team just above the relegation places, scraping over the line under Steven MacLean.

The rookie coach has since been appointed permanently, but those League Cup fixtures suggest that this wasn’t the smartest move.

So, a Hearts win seems likely at McDiarmid Park.
