Ross County vs Rangers match preview

Rangers may be in the middle of a huge European tie, but they cannot afford to drop points in the Highlands.

On Tuesday night, just as they did last season, the Light Blues welcomed PSV Eindhoven to Ibrox for the first leg of their Champions League play-off.

Also just like 12 months ago, the two clubs played out a thoroughly entertaining 2-2 draw, in which Rangers led twice, but were unable to claim an advantage.

Abdallah Sima fired home a rocket in first half stoppage time, before Rabbi Matondo stroked home a second, played in beautifully by Cyriel Dessers, but PSV were able to respond both times.

Last August, the Gers won 1-0 at Philips Stadion, thereby ending their 12-year Champions League exile, and they’ll require a repeat result in the Netherlands this forthcoming Wednesday night.

Before then, Michael Beale’s team also need to win here, given that they’ve already dropped points in the Premiership this season, beaten 1-0 by Kilmarnock, their first top-flight opening day defeat for 25 years.

Ross County come into this clash following back-to-back wins, having defeated St Johnstone 2-0 in their only home league fixture so far, before last weekend’s bonkers League Cup victory at Airdrieonians.

Kyle Turner, Jordan White and Simon Murray all on target at Excelsior Stadium, with Eamonn Brophy then bagging the extra time winner as the Staggies snuck through 4-3.

On the opening day, Malky Mackay’s men gave Celtic a run for their money at Parkhead, eventually defeated 4-2.

The Highlanders also held Rangers to a 3-3 draw in January 2022, so can Ross County cause another upset in this Saturday lunchtime clash?
