Livingston vs Aberdeen match preview

Will either side make a winning start to their campaign at Almondvale?

Last season was, in short, bonkers for the Dons, who, in the space of nine days, were dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Darvel, before conceding five at Tynecastle and then six at Easter Road.

This, unsurprisingly, saw Jim Goodwin sacked, with Barry Robson taking over and doing so well he was given the job permanently.

The Res enjoyed seven Premiership wins on the spin for the first time in eight years, form that saw them finish in third place, guaranteeing they’ll feature in a UEFA group stage for the first time since 2007.

Later this month, Aberdeen have a Europa League play-off tie to look forward to but, before then, they’ll be desperate to win this Premiership opener, especially given that they welcome Celtic to Pittodrie next Sunday.

As for Livingston, this’ll be their sixth consecutive season in the top-flight, which is a fantastic achievement.

Last month, Livi came through the League Cup group phase with ten points, beating Brechin, Cove Rangers and Clyde, meaning a shootout defeat to Hamilton Accies did not deny them top spot.

Livingston are always strong at the Tony Macaroni Arena, making this clash tough to call.
