Dundee United vs Kilmarnock match preview

Will this be the night Dundee United’s return to the Championship is sealed?

293 days ago, the Tangerines began the campaign by beating AZ in the Europa Conference League, before admittedly getting demolished 7-0 in Alkmaar a week later.

Since then, both Jack Ross and Liam Fox have been sacked as manager, with Jim Goodwin appearing unable to save them from relegation.

On Saturday, the Arabs were beaten 2-1 by Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena, with Ian Harkes’ stunning equaliser ultimately in vain.

That’s now three successive defeats for United who, before that, had given themselves a lifeline by claiming back-to-back wins.

Now though, the Tangerines remain rooted at the foot of the table, two points below Ross County in the relegation play-off spot.

Kilmarnock though are far from out of trouble themselves, kicking off tenth, just three points better off than their hosts.

Killie have leapt out of the bottom two by beating St Mirren and Livingston recently, but remain in danger, following Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to St Johnstone.

David Watson’s red card on the cusp of half time making a comeback even more unlikely than it already was.

Derek McInnes’ men will surely be coming into this clash full of trepidation, given that Kilmarnock have accumulated just five points on the road all season, amongst the lowest tallies in all of Europe.

This includes being smashed 4-0 by Dundee United in November although, three months later, Killie were victorious 1-0 at Tannadice in the Scottish Cup.

If United can win this one, it would make it incredibly tight ahead of the final day, so will those in Tangerine be celebrating a, potentially, massive win?
