Aberdeen vs Hibernian match preview
After both were beaten in Europe in mid-week, who will bounce back with a victory in the Granite City?
Hibernian will be relieved that they don’t have to face Aston Villa anymore, beaten 5-0 in the first leg at Easter Road before a 3-0 loss at Villa Park on Thursday.
This brings to an end a memorable European adventure for Hibs, enjoying victories over Inter Club d’Escaldes and then Luzern, as they won back-to-back ties for just the second time in 51 years.
In the Premiership meanwhile, the Hibees’ campaign has been a bit of a catastrophe, losing all three matches, beaten by St Mirren, Motherwell and Livingston.
Lee Johnson was sacked following the latter last weekend, with 2016 Scottish Cup final match-winner David Gray still in caretaker charge.
Aberdeen meantime were beaten in the Europa League play-offs this week, earning a credible 2-2 draw in Göteborg, before Thursday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Allsvenskan champions BK Häcken.
Domestically, the Reds are also still seeking their first league win of the campaign, although they do have two points, snatching a 2-2 draw at St Mirren last Sunday, courtesy of Bojan Miovski 90+10th minute penalty.
Nevertheless, Barry Robson’s side certainly come into this clash at Pittodrie as favourites.
