Foden is a man in-form at the minute, bagging three goals in his last five appearances in all competitions. With both Sergio Agüero and Kevin De Bruyne unavailable, and Gabriel Jesus still struggling for consistency and end-product, the England international should start and be a goal-threat throughout.

It was almost a day to forget when Manchester City traveled to Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup at the weekend. A 59th-minute goal by Alfie May but the Robins in-front of Pep Guardiola’s side, who were made to wait for a goal-glut in the final ten minutes that many assumed would occur far earlier.

Though they’re through to the next round of England’s premier cup competition, City have a lot to prove if they hope to keep their scintillating domestic form when they travel to the Hawthorns when they pay West Bromwich Albion a visit. And they’ll have to do it without arguably the most influential midfielder: Kevin De Bruyne.

Eight wins in their last ten fixtures in the league should be sufficient enough evidence to put any worries to rest for the Citizens, who at times do struggle to get out of the blocks in strong fashion against lesser opponents. Youngster Phil Foden is likely to be a key contributor for Guardiola, who recently urged him to focus on his own game rather than emulate De Bruyne’s. City should have enough about themselves to continue their rise to the top of the table in a developing league showdown with city rivals Manchester United.

When does the shoe drop for West Brom?

Struggling mightily in the Premier League is a story all-too-familiar for West Brom, and this season is no different. Starved of a consistent ability to find the back of the net to the tune of just fifteen goals in nineteen league fixtures, there is little to write home about in the 2020-21 campaign for the Baggies faithful.

Matheus Pereira has been the one bright spot in the Black Country, however. The West Midlands outfit struck gold when the young Brazilian joined from Portuguese youth factory Sporting CP this past summer, and he has delivered on a personal level by topping both the clubs’ charts in both goals (4) and assists (3) this term.

But it is likely to not be nearly enough to push Brum out of relegation if current trends remain. A crunch fixture against Fulham is on the horizon, but going into such a key showdown on the back of a visit from City is hardly the way they’d be hoping to try to string together any decent run of results. Something has to give for West Brom; soon.

Grady Diangana, Karlan Grant, and Conor Townsend all remain unavailable for selection through injury.

Manchester City have been hit by the Covid-19 bug as well, with club-record goal-scorer Sergio Agüero testing positive and now unavailable.
