Match preview

Just nine English clubs have featured in a European Cup Final, with Leeds beaten by Bayern Munich in 1975, before Nottingham Forest won back-to-back titles in 1979 and 1980.

These days, these two storied clubs are simply seeking to stay clear of the Premier League’s relegation battle.

Of the two, Nottingham Forest kick off two places and three points better off, sat 13th, their highest position since August.

That’s because Steve Cooper’s side have lost just two of their last ten league matches, these defeats coming at Old Trafford and the Emirates.

Since their most-recent Premier League engagement, a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, Forest have been involved in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

However, the Reds will not be heading to Wembley later this month after they were demolished 5-0 by Manchester United on aggregate.

Here, can Forest extend their unbeaten home league run to seven matches?

Leeds United meanwhile are still searching for their first league victory since the World Cup, even if they’ve drawn three of their last four.

Jesse Marsch’s men have won only twice in the Premier League since 21 August, but have made progress in the FA Cup.

Last weekend, goals from Jack Harrison, Junior Firpo and Luis Sinisterra downed Accrington Stanley; they’ll travel to Fulham or Sunderland in round five.

But Premier League points are what Leeds need, so will they win at the City Ground in the top division for the first time since 1971?

Nottingham Forest team news

Nottingham Forest have now signed 30 players, yes really, since achieving promotion back in May.

This is after Keylor Navas, Felipe Jonjo Shelvey and André Ayew all joined the club this week.

With Dean Henderson out injured, three-time Champions League winning goalkeeper Navas could be thrown in, despite having made just two Coupe de France appearances for PSG this season.

Elsewhere, Jesse Lingard is a doubt, having picked up an injury in the warm-up at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

With Taiwo Awoniyi and Morgan Gibbs-White also sidelined, Chris Wood will lead the line; he wasn’t eligible to play in the EFL Cup.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Navas; Aurier, Worrall, Boly, Lodi; Freuler, Mangala; Johnson, Scarpa, Bonaventure Dennis; Wood.

Leeds United team news

Leeds are without top-scorer Rodrigo who suffered an ankle injury at Accrington that’ll keep him out for two months.

So, club-record signing Georginio Rutter could make his full-Premier League debut, after starting alongside Patrick Bamford in the FA Cup.

At the back, Robin Koch is serving a one-match suspension, having been shown his fifth yellow card of the season against Brentford.

This’ll see January signing Maximilian Wöber partner Diego Llorente at the heart of their defence.

Speaking of new recruits, Weston McKennie could make his Premier League debut, possibly alongside U.S. teammates Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson in midfield

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Meslier; Ayling, Llorente, Wöber, Struijk; Adams, McKennie, Harrison, Aaronson, Gnonto; Rutter.
