‎The Whites welcome Chelsea to the Elland Road in Leeds on Saturday for this Premier League match.

These sides share quite an even record in the Premier League. Their 25 meetings have seen 8 Leeds wins, 9 Chelsea wins and 8 draws.

However, Leeds’ last win in this fixture came before the 2003 take-over of Chelsea by Roman Abramovich. Since that victory over the Christmas period of 2002, Chelsea have 4 wins and a draw from 5 matches against Leeds.

Leeds vs Chelsea: Recommended bets

Leeds’ last home victory over Chelsea came back in December 2002 by a scoreline of 2-0. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 25/1.

Chelsea’s last win at Elland Road was a 1-5 thrashing in the EFL Cup back in 2012. You can back them at 50/1 for the same scoreline here on Saturday.

The last 2 times these sides have faced each other has produced a combined 10 goals. You can back another high scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 8/11 on for an over 2.5 goals match.

Patrick Bamford scored the opening goal inside 4 minutes when these sides faced each other back in December. Bamford is the favourite of those in white to get on the scoresheet at 15/8. Or 6/1 to open the scoring once again against Chelsea.

Leeds vs Chelsea: What are the betting odds?

The Whites have a solid home record in the Premier League against Chelsea, with 6 wins to 2. However, they have only won 1 of the last 5 matches between them here, in all competitions. This sees them start Saturday as the 7/2 underdogs despite being at home.

Thomas Tuchel has won 5 of his 6 away matches, in all competitions, since becoming Chelsea’s manager. The 1-1 draw at Southampton being the only blemish on an otherwise perfect record. His Chelsea side are the 8/11 favourites to beat Leeds at Elland Road.

Both Leeds’ home matches against other members of the ‘big 6’ this season have ended in a draw. Odds of 3/1 are available if you see Leeds and Chelsea also cancelling each other out on Saturday.

Leeds vs Chelsea: Match preview

Thomas Tuchel will face legendary Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa for the first time in his career on Saturday.

While his predecessor Frank Lampard managed to secure an easy enough win against Leeds earlier this season, the unique approach of this Leeds side would suggest it is a difficult opponent to prepare to play against.

Opposition managers have commented on Leeds’ man-marking, positional rotations and intensity as being key facets to their play which make them such difficult opponents to face.

Of course, Thomas Tuchel is also a top-tier coach and his sides always look well prepared. He also has the one thing that has been the great difference-maker for top teams: quality in depth.

Should Chelsea need to find a goal to get back into the game, he will have the likes of Pulisic, Havertz, Giroud, Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi to call upon to change the game.

In contrast, Bielsa’s attacking substitutes this week look likely to be Rodrigo and Ian Poveda who have 3 Premier League goals between them from 29 appearances this season. After that, their attacking depth is youth players such as 18-year-olds Joe Gelhardt and Jack Jenkins.

The other concern for Leeds will be whether they are struggling to maintain the same levels that they started the season with. Their return of 3 points from the last 5 games is their lowest of any 5-game period so far this season.

While Chelsea are the Premier League side with the longest unbeaten run, which currently stands at 9 games. Only league-leaders Manchester City have picked up more points in the league since Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Leeds team news vs Chelsea

Adam Forshaw remains on the long-term injury list with a hip injury that has caused him to sit out the season so far.

Pascal Struijk has not recovered from a knock that caused him to miss Monday night’s defeat against West Ham. Thankfully, his injury coincided with Kalvin Phillips’ return from a calf injury that caused him to miss the previous 4 league games.

Robin Koch hasn’t featured for Leeds since early December due to a knee injury. While he is now returning to training, he is likely still weeks away from being involved in the first team once again.

Gaetano Berardi was involved in his first matchday squad of the season on Monday. The right-back had been sidelined with an ACL injury for the entire season so far. He now faces a battle with Luke Ayling for that starting berth.

Pablo Hernandez missed the West Ham match with a small muscular issue. He is rated as 50/50 to be involved in Saturday’s match.

Jamie Shackleton is another who faces a late fitness test on a groin problem that has kept him out of the previous 3 squads.

Chelsea team news vs Leeds

Tammy Abraham is the only member of the first team who is an injury doubt for Saturday’s match. He has missed the last 3 Premier League matches with an ankle problem. Abraham is nearing a return and could be included on the bench against Leeds.

Thiago Silva missed 5 Premier League games with a thigh problem. However, he was an unused substitute on the bench against Everton. With a full week between matches, he could be ready to start on Saturday. With Chelsea looking so good and solid at the back, is there any motivation for Tuchel to change though?

Antonio Rüdiger was rested for the 2-0 win against Everton last weekend. He is expected to come back into the side here for Kurt Zouma.

Mason Mount and N’Golo Kanté were also rested for the Everton match. Both are also expected to return to the starting XI for Kai Havertz and Jorginho respectively.

Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, and Olivier Giroud are the other unused subs from last weekend who will be hoping for a recall to the starting XI.
