Crystal Palace vs West Ham United match preview

After both were beaten in mid-week, can either get back to winning ways in this London derby?

On Tuesday night, Crystal Palace were beaten 2-0 by Wolves at Molineux.

Joachim Andersen was responsible for a freak own goal in the third minute before, deep into stoppage time, Sam Johnstone recklessly conceded a penalty that put the result beyond any doubt.

This was Roy Hodgson’s first defeat since returning as manager, starting with three successive wins prior to last weekend’s goalless draw with Everton.

Despite all of this, the Eagles haven’t left 12th spot since New Years’ Eve, but would do so, leapfrogging Chelsea, if victorious here.

West Ham United meantime would climb three places, above Palace into 12th, if they were to leave South London with all three points.

Lucas Paquetá broke the deadlock with a long-range streak, only for the Reds to win it via a corner just two minutes from time.

Before this though, David Moyes’ men had won three of five league outings, including smashing Bournemouth 4-0 last Sunday.

As a result, the Irons are all but safe from relegation, so will be able to focus on their Europa Conference League semi-final against AZ, coming up on just 12 days time.

Palace won the reverse fixture 2-1 in November, but West Ham have won their last two visits to Selhurst, both ending 3-2.

In short, this weekend’s lunchtime kick off is tough to call.

Crystal Palace team news

The headline team news is that Wilfried Zaha is set to start, having last featured on April Fools’ Day due to injury.

Roy Hodgson completed changed his midfield for the mid-week trip to Molineux, bringing in club captain Luka Milivojević as well as Will Hughes and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Here though, Cheick Doucouré and Jeffrey Schlupp are set to return, with Eberechi Eze back in a midfield role, while Odsonne Édouard will be back up front.

In fact, the only change from last weekend’s draw with Everton is set to come in defence.

Joachim Andersen hobbled off against Wolves, meaning Chris Richards could partner Marc Guéhi at the back.

Despite conceding a stoppage time penalty on Tuesday, Sam Johnstone is set to keep his place in goal, chosen over Vicente Guaita.

Doucouré would miss Palace’s next two games, Tottenham (A) and Bournemouth (H) if booked.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Johnstone; Ward, Richards, Guéhi, Mitchell; Doucouré, Eze, Schlupp; Olise, Zaha, Édouard.

West Ham United team news

David Moyes has a best XI right now, but might be forced to rotate given that his team are playing every three or four days.

Thilo Kehrer and Emerson could be rotated in for Vladimír Coufal and Aaron Cresswell at full-back respectively.

In the middle, Angelo Ogbonna has missed the last four games due to injury, but could be back in the XI here.

Lucas Paquetá has scored in each of his last three appearances, despite having not netted since 4 February beforehand.

Up front, Michail Antonio will be looking to add to his two goals at Selhurst Park, which were scored a decade apart.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Fabiański; Kehrer, Zouma, Ogbonna, Emerson; Rice, Souček, Paquetá; Bowen, Benrahma, Antonio.
