Betting prediction: Chelsea 4 – 0 Norwich City

Chelsea welcomes Norwich to Stamford Bridge in London on Saturday for this Premier League match.

The Blues have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with 11 wins to Norwich City’s 4, from their 18 encounters in the Premier League.

Recent matches have been particularly hard on the Canaries, who have picked up just 2 points in the league in this head-to-head since the mid-90s. They are currently on a 17-game winless run in the fixture, across all competitions.

Chelsea vs Norwich City: Recommended bets

101 Great Goals’ prediction of Chelsea 2 – 0 Norwich is available at odds of 6/1.

1-0 Chelsea win. The last match in this head-to-head was a 1-0 Chelsea win at Stamford Bridge when Norwich were last in the Premier League. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 8/1.

0-0 draw. Since the turn of the millennium, there have been 4 draws in this head-to-head, with all 4 finishing with a 0-0 scoreline. Odds of 15/1 are available if you see this match finishing with the same result.

1-2 Norwich win. Norwich’s last win at Stamford Bridge came back in 1993, with former Chelsea striker, Chris Sutton, scoring the winning goal. You can back them at 41/1 for the same scoreline here on Saturday.

Jorginho Goalscorer. Jorginho bagged a brace of penalties in midweek to help Chelsea to a 4-0 win against Malmo. The Italian international is yet to get off the mark this season in the league, but given their problems in attack, it may be that Chelsea end up breaking the deadlock from the penalty spot in this game. You can back the 29-year-old midfielder at 7.5/1 to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 2.87/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Norwich City.

The Blues have won each of the last 4 Premier League matches in this head-to-head, and are 1.16/1 to take all 3 points from Norwich once again on Saturday.

Whereas, the Canaries are 15/1 to pick up a first away win at Stamford Bridge since the early ‘90s.

Odds of 7/1 are available if you see Chelsea and Norwich cancelling each other out on Saturday.

Chelsea vs Norwich City: Match preview

The injuries picked up in midweek by Chelsea’s two strikers have changed the complexion of this match from a home banker to a tricky fixture to negotiate.

The loss of both Werner and Lukaku leaves Chelsea lacking a focal point in attack, and short of players to run in behind and stretch the Norwich backline.

However, the Blues may have gotten lucky with the timing of the injuries. Obviously, losing both strikers at any time isn’t good, but league games against the Premier League’s bottom 3 clubs, a trip to Malmo and Southampton at home in the Carabao Cup are the only matches the club need to see out within the next 30 days. After the November International break, both should be back to help negotiate more difficult opponents such as Leicester, Juventus and Manchester United.

In terms of Saturday’s match, Tuchel needs to shuffle his pack and come up with a solution to the problem, while also managing the minute load of players who started each of the last 2 games with only 2 days rest since Malmo in midweek.

It is likely that we will see Kai Havertz return to the starting XI after spending the last 3 league games on the bench. However, as he tends to play the forward role more as a false 9, that means the supporting players will need to be the ones running in behind. Mason Mount will likely be selected but perhaps we will also see Callum Hudson-Odoi, who assisted Havertz in midweek, utilised for his pace.

For Norwich, this represents the perfect opportunity to claim their first big win of the season. They memorably claimed the scalp of Manchester City towards the start of their last Premier League campaign back in 2019. The reality of the situation is, though, that the quality gap between the two clubs, even with Werner and Lukaku missing, is likely too big for Norwich to handle.

Chelsea team news vs Norwich City

The Blues’ 4-0 win against Malmo in midweek came at a massive cost.

Romelu Lukaku was replaced midway through the first half after twisting his ankle in the box. Kai Havertz replaced him and seems likely to start here with Lukaku looking set to be out for a couple of weeks with his injury.

It went from bad to worse when Timo Werner suffered a hamstring strain just before half-time and was replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi. With Tammy Abraham having departed for Roma, this leaves Chelsea short on options to lead the line here.

There is some good news, though, with regards to Christian Pulisic. The USMNT international hasn’t featured in the league for the Blues since the 3-0 win against Palace on the opening day of the season. He is nearing a return to full training and, though unavailable here, could be back playing for Chelsea by the end of the month.

Norwich City team news vs Chelsea

Rocky Bushiri is still on the long-term injury list with a meniscus injury.

Billy Gilmour will be unable to play here given the Premier League rules surrounding loan players facing their parent club. Although, the young Scot has been out of favour in recent weeks, and has been an unused sub in each of the last 3 games.

Sam Byram is still rehabbing a thigh injury he suffered last season, though he is showing encouraging signs in training. No return date has been provided as of yet for first team contention.

Christoph Zimmermann is still struggling with an ankle injury and it is likely that he will need another surgery.

Przemyslaw Placheta hasn’t been involved in a Premier League squad yet this season as he is still suffering symptoms from a COVID-19 infection picked up in pre-season.

Bali Mumba is also out after he dislocated his knee following a bad tackle in the League Cup against Bournemouth.

There is finally some good news regarding Todd Cantwell, though. Cantwell has missed the last 2 league games with an Achilles injury, but returned to training during the international break and is expected to be involved here. Given the fact that he hasn’t played any football in over a month, the midfielder is likely to be eased back from the bench.
