Chelsea vs Manchester United match preview

A sold-out Wembley Stadium is set to play host to the 53rd Women’s FA Cup Final, as the top two in the FAWSL will go head-to-head.

So, will it be the holders or the first-time finalists who are hoisting aloft silverware in front over 90,000 spectators?

Chelsea are seeking to go back-to-back-to-back in this competition, having beaten Arsenal in the 2021 final and the Manchester City 3-2 a year ago.

To get here, the Blues have seen off four top-flight teams, ousting Liverpool, Arsenal, Reading and then Aston Villa in last month’s semi-final.

On Wednesday night, Emma Hayes’ team smashed Leicester City 6-0 at Kingsmeadow, so remain second in the WSL, a point adrift the leaders, but with a games in hand.

The side currently topping the table are Manchester United, having won five league games in a row, most-recently smashing Tottenham 3-0 a week ago.

Now though, Marc Skinner’s side have all but secured Champions League qualification, and could yet dethrone Chelsea as WSL champions.

Here, having overcome Sunderland, Durham, Lewes and Brighton, the Red Devils are on the cusp of claiming major silverware for the very first time in the club’s short history.

Chelsea have won both league meetings with Man United this season, prevailing 3-1 at Leigh Sports Village in November, before a 1-0 victory at Kingsmeadow in March.

So, will the FA Cup trophy be draped in blue or red ribbons come full time at Wembley?
