Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest match preview

Will Aston Villa’s unlikely push for European football continue?

It’s already been a memorable week for the Claret and Blue Army, first seeing their team beat Chelsea 2-0 last weekend.

Ollie Watkins’ deft dink followed by John McGinn’s thunderbolt securing the points.

Then, on Tuesday night, Villa beat Leicester 2-1 at the King Power, doing so in dramatic fashion.

Watkins was on target once again, before Bertrand TraorĂ©’s stunning curler, coming just two minutes from time, snatch a win.

So, Villa are now unbeaten in six Premier League games, their longest such streak since October 2011, form that has seen them surge up to seventh.

So, will Unai Emery’s side claim three more invaluable points as they chase a return to the continental stage?

Nottingham Forest meantime are simply battling to preserve their top-flight status.

On Tuesday, the Reds were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline, beaten by Leeds, despite taking the lead at Elland Road through Orel Mangala’s strike.

This means Steve Cooper’s side are winless in eight games, with Cooper very much under pressure.

Forest are above the drop zone by virtue of goal difference alone, and have taken just six points on the road this season, scoring a measly five goals in 14 away matches.

The Reds haven’t won at Villa Park since 1994, although their last meeting in B6 ending 5-5.

This time, a home win seems likely.

Aston Villa team news

Given Villa’s unbeaten streak, there’s little reason for Unai Emery to change much.

Boubacar Kamara picked up an injury at Stamford Bridge last weekend so, if he’s not back, John McGinn will continue in a deeper role.

With Matty Cash sidelined, Ashley Young will keep his place at right-back, making his 415th Premier League appearance.

Centre-back Diego Carlos will be hoping to get off the bench, having not featured since August due to an ACL rupture.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): MartĂnez; Young, Konsa, Mings, Moreno; Douglas Luiz, McGinn, BuendĂa, Ramsey; Bailey, Watkins.

Nottingham Forest team news

Fit again Taiwo Awoniyi could return to lead the line, displacing Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis.

If Forest do stay up, it’ll largely be thanks to Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White who, between them, have scored 12 goals in all competitions.

Renan Lodi could return at left-back, while Cheikhou Kouyaté came off the bench on Tuesday, his first appearance since the World Cup.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Navas; Williams, Worrall, Niakhaté, Lodi; Freuler, Mangala, Danilo; Gibbs-White, Johnson, Awoniyi.
