Arsenal vs Manchester City betting tips: Premier League preview and predictions

Arsenal vs Man City prediction: Arsenal 1-3 Man City

The stand out game from the opening weekend by far!

Arsenal go into a new season with a new manager for the first time since 1995 and will be desperate to get the Unai Emery era off to a winning start.

However, they will probably not play a better side all season long.

Record breaking Manchester City will be looking to start their title defence with a win in what promises to be a fascinating encounter.

Arsenal vs Manchester City: Who will win?

The gunners have a poor recent record in opening games having only won 2 of their last 8. They are 5/2 to start this season with, what would be, a huge win.

Manchester City, who won 32 of their league games last season, are 19/20 to start this campaign with a win.

A draw is 14/5.

The Citizens beat Arsenal 3-0 twice in the space of 4 days last season including in the Carabao Cup final. A repeat scoreline is 16/1.

It looks like there will be lots of goals in this one and Manchester City to win and over 2.5 goals is 6/4.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Agüero comes into the game in red hot form having scored twice in last weekend’s Community Shield.

He’s also scored 4 goals in his last 5 appearances against Arsenal. He is 4/1 first goalscorer, evens to score anytime and 4/1 to score a second brace of the season already.

Arsenal will be pinning their goalscoring hopes on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season. The Gabonese forward is 9/2 to score first and 11/8 to net anytime.

Aubameyang and Agüero to both score is 7/2.

For the first time in a number of years, all Arsenal fans come into the new season with a massive sense of optimism.

Unai Emery is the new head coach and Gooners can not wait for the new era to begin.

After last season’ss terrible sixth place finish, the only way is up and the aim is to bring Champions League football back to the Emirates Stadium; something that it will now be deprived of for a second season in a row.

Despite all the turmoil, one thing that did remain strong was their home form.

Arsenal won 47 of their 63 points at home but only beat one of the five teams who finished above them.

Nevertheless, it’s a new era now but can Emery start with a victory?

Manchester City look as good as last season!

The best Premier League team of all time? Many stats would say so.

Most wins, most points and most goals scored. What a season it was.

They became the first team to record 100 points and finished 19 clear of anybody else.

No team has retained the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United 10 years ago but surely there has never been anyone better placed to do so.

Before 2016, no champion in Premier League history had lost their first game the year after winning the title.

However, it has happened in both of the last two seasons.

Leicester lost at Hull and last year Burnley came away from Stamford Bridge with a 3-2 win over Chelsea.

Surely that won’t happen to Manchester City, will it?

Arsenal go into this game with a left back crisis. Sead Kolašinac is out for around 10 weeks with a knee injury and Nacho Monreal has also been struggling for fitness.

This means that 20 year-old midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles is likely to fill in there. He did play well at left back a couple of times last season, most notably against Mo Salah, but it could be a tough afternoon for the youngster up against Riyad Mahrez.

Unai Emery could hand debuts to 5 new signings.

We are no clearer to knowing whether Petr Čech or new singing Bernd Leno will start. However, with around £25 million spent on Leno it would seem likely that he’ll get the nod.

Centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and holding midfielder Lucas Torreira are both also set to make their first Arsenal appearances. It looks unlikely that either Stephan Lichtsteiner or Mattéo Guendouzi will make their debuts as well.

With both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette available, Emery has a decision to make.

Does he play both of his top quality forwards?

If not, which one does he leave out?

It would be very bold to start both against the champions so Aubameyang is likely to start up front with Özil and Mkhitaryan playing behind him.

It’ll be fascinating to see who Emery does pick for his first game in charge.

Riyad Mahrez

Guardiola has almost a fully fit squad at his disposal. The only injury doubt is Danilo who missed most of the World Cup for Brazil after getting injured in their oppenning game.

Both Kyle Walker and John Stones started at Wembley last weekend despite the fact their World Cup campaigns with England only ended 3 weeks before.

It seems likely that Aymeric Laporte and Nicolás Otamendi will be his first choice centre back partnership but who he chooses there is something to look out for.

Fernandinho, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne all missed the Chelsea game after World Cup commitments but all 3 are expected to start at The Emirates.

A good performance on his debut at Wembley should be enough to get record signing Riyad Mahrez a first league start in Manchester City blue. The Algerian was The Citizens only acquisition this summer.

This Manchester City team appears to have no weaknesses and should be too strong for Arsenal on the opening day.
