Former Manchester City and FC Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure has been speaking about Mikel Arteta recently and Arsenal fans will likely be happy with what the Ivorian has had to say.
Yaya Toure would play under Pep Guardiola for both Barcelona and Manchester City, winning a number of trophies along the way.
Now, after Arsenal’s most recent win, Toure has compared Arsenal’s ability to get the ball back under Arteta to that of a Pep Guardiola team:
“If you see the action before the goals, that’s why you have to give credit to Arteta since he has arrived at Arsenal,” Toure said.
“He has improved this team when they lose the ball. Five seconds and they get the ball back. That’s typical from Pep [Guardiola].
“When I was at Barcelona, they were doing similar. When they lost the ball, the guys who are in front, they stay. The guys who are behind, they run behind you. Man City do that a lot. They are great at that.
Bukayo Saka showcases Toure’s point
It is easy to see why Toure would have this opinion after Arsenal’s win over Watford.
Not only were all of the goals very well worked with quick-paced, clever passing, but Arsenal’s second in particular showcased exactly what Toure was talking about above.
Bukayo Saka would win the ball back from Tom Cleverley before playing a quick one-two with Alexandre Lacazette and then smashing in a goal:
“He’s made one and scored one!” 💪
