Douglas Luiz latest: Liverpool rejected as Arsenal come up short with 2nd bid

The Gunners’ move for Luiz looks set to come down to the wire

A series of updates on the ongoing saga surrounding the future of Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz have come to the fore late on Thursday.

The name of Brazilian international Luiz, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines across the day to date.

This comes after the 24-year-old was identified as a key last-minute target on the part of Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Owing to injuries picked up by both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, the Gunners have set their sights firmly on fresh blood in the middle of the park ahead of the transfer deadline, with Luiz the first-choice target.

To this point, however, the efforts of Edu Gaspar to find a deal for his fellow countryman have proven to be in vain.

The board at Villa Park, for their part, stood firm in the face of an opening Arsenal offer, with a fresh update on the situation late this evening pointing towards yet further frustration for the Londoners, too.

Elsewhere on Thursday evening, it has been revealed that another of the English top-flight’s clubs came up short with a last-minute Luiz swoop of their own.

The outfit in question? Liverpool.

This comes with the 24-year-old understood to have his sights set on linking up with compatriots Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Martinelli in north London.

Liverpool, in turn, quickly closed a deal for another Brazilian midfielder, in the form of Juventus’ Arthur.
