David Beckham approached to lend weight to potential bids for up-for-sale Manchester United

A return to Old Trafford could be on the cards for Beckham at board level as part of a prospective ownership consortium after cutting his teeth in MLS ownership

The news that Manchester United has been pitched for a potential sale by the unpopular owners the Glazer family in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s scathing interview with Piers Morgan has come at an interesting time for the Premier League giants.

Whether the situational change at Old Trafford is down to the Portuguese legend or not remains to be seen, but the notion that United may find itself in a situation similar to league rivals Manchester City and Chelsea in the near future is a real one, and David Beckham could be set to play a key role in that.

Per reports in Financial Times, Beckham is being targeted by potential ownership consortiums in a bid to lend weight to proposed bids for United, with the former England star’s connection to the club and gravitas in the English game coming to the fore.

Beckham is thought to be open as part of a consortium bid and sources close to the player have stated that he has previously been approached to gauge his interest.

Now that he has already cut his teeth in ownership in MLS with Inter Miami, Beckham could add a piece of the United pie to his post-playing CV while playing a vital role in connecting likely foreign ownership to the massive Red Devils fanbase both on English shores and around the world.

With the club looking to continue to get back on track on the pitch, progression off it in terms of modernizing its facilities and remaining in touch with the fanbase certainly must be a key part remit under whoever prizes United away from the Glazer’s clutches, with Beckham possibly being the face of any successful bid.

Whether or not Beckham will play some role as part of Radcliffe’s impending move remains to be seen.
