Cristiano Ronaldo lifts Euro 2016 trophy with Portugal

2018 World Cup odds: Germany & Brazil favourites, Argentina & Portugal huge offers

2018 World Cup: Who will win?

It’s less than three months until the 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia.

As the finalists all fine tune their teams before the upcoming squad announcements, it’s worth considering who are the favourites to win the World Cup.

Of course, the reigning champs are Germany.

The Germans beat Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final in the Maracana. That’s after Jogi Low’s side beat Brazil 7-1 in the semifinals.

Germany & Brazil favourites

Germany are the 9/2 favourites with Paddy Power to win in Russia this summer.

The Germans are on a 22-match unbeaten run. Indeed the last team to beat the Germans were France back at Euro 2016, when Antoine Griezmann scored a double in the semifinals.

But there are question marks in the German side.

Will Manuel Neuer be fit? Is Jonas Hector good enough at left-back? And do they have strikers who can score goals in crunch games at the World Cup?

If it’s not going to be Germany, Brazil are the second favourites to win the 2018 World Cup.

The bookies have Brazil at 5/1 odds to win the competition, after they stormed the South American qualifying.

But European teams have dominated the final stages of World Cups in recent tournaments. Can Brazil really win in Russia after they bottled it on home soil?

Argentina & Portugal huge offers

Looking around the rest of the top contenders, France (11/2) and Spain (6/1) are third and fourth in the standings.

Both France and Spain will be coming to Russia with squads that most other nations would only dream about.

But perhaps the biggest question marks over both those nations is aimed not at the undoubted stars in the squad, but the men in the respective dugouts.

World Cup tip: Argentina 8/1 to win with Paddy Power.

Looking slightly further afield, many will be tempted by Argentina at 8/1.

Those of big odds for a side with Leo Messi in it.

Argentina stumbled through qualifying, while they have many structural concerns in their squad. But they are also blessed with incredible talent.

Another nation likely to be heavily backed this summer are Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo helped lead his team to their first major trophy two years ago winning Euro 2016.

Why can’t they do it again at the World Cup? And with odds of 20/1, Portugal look like a great punt.

World Cup tip: Portugal 20/1 to win with Paddy Power.
