Tenerife have announced the death of forward Jesus de Miguel after he failed to recover from injuries sustained in Monday’s Segunda Division game with Andorra.
The 30-year-old collided with visiting goalkeeper Jesus Owono when chasing a long ball and there was immediate concern from players and medical staff.
The game was abandoned and De Miguel taken to hospital. An early update said the player was “serious but stable” but his condition deteriorated and his passing was announced on Tuesday.
A club statement read: “Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, CD Tenerife communicates the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.
“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome.
“The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.”
Andorra express their devastation at De Miguel’s passing
Owono was red-carded for the challenge but any anger was quickly put to one side with players rushing to De Miguel’s aid.
An Andorra statement read: “With broken hearts and devastation, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his team-mates, friends, and to CD Tenerife. Rest in peace.”
Real Madrid and Barcelona also sent messages of condolence.
