Argentina and the Netherlands are set to clash later this week in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Netherlands saw off the USA with ease in the last-16, whilst Argentina had a similarly easy test vs Australia.
Two of the tournament favourites are now set to meet in the last-eight, with a spot in the semi-final, likely vs Brazil on the horizon.
The game will see Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players of all time, face off against Virgil van Dijk – a man who has impressed with Liverpool in recent years.
Now, ahead of the game, Virgil van Dijk has been discussing Lionel Messi and how it can be difficult to defend against him because of the no.10′s playstyle:
“The difficult thing about him is when we are attacking, he is chilling somewhere in a corner or something,” Van Dijk said to reporters. “You have to be so very sharp in terms of defensive organisation. They always looked for him to try to make it difficult for us on the counter.” He added: ‘’It is not me against him, or the Netherlands against him, but the Netherlands against Argentina. No one can do it on his own, we will have to come up with a good plan.’’
