Why two Manchester United players did not report for training on Saturday

Two Manchester United players missed out on training earlier this week.

Eric Bailly and Alex Telles did not turn up for the first day of pre-season training at Manchester United on Saturday.

This is because, according to the Manchester Evening News, Man United regard Bailly and Telles as must-sells this summer and neither are expected to be included in the tour squad that departs for the United States on Wednesday.

Both players are out of contract next year and would not have their one-year extensions triggered if United fail to sell them in the summer or in January of 2024.

United bought Bailly for £30m from Villarreal in June 2016 but he has since failed to cement a regular starting spot. His poor form coupled with a number of injury issues eventually led to him being shipped out on loan. He spent last season in Ligue 1 with Marseille.

Alex Telles had a similarly tough time after making the move from FC Porto. And after Tyrell Malacia was brought in last summer, United shipped the Brazilian out on loan to Sevilla.
