‘Under orders to injure our captain?’ - Arsenal supporters fume with Man City’s Rodri over Odegaard challenge

Fans of Arsenal have taken to social media in numbers on Saturday evening, to make clear their frustrations with Manchester City star Rodri.

For those not aware, key squad members from the Premier League’s top-two locked horns on the international stage a short time ago.

In a European Championship qualifier, the aforementioned Rodri’s Spain welcomed Norway, and Martin Odegaard, to La Rosaleda.

When all was said and done, it was the hosts who emerged on the right side of a dominant scoreline, owing to Dani Olmo’s early opener, and an ensuing brace on the part of debutant Joselu.

As alluded to above, however, amid what, for much of the evening, proved a hard-fought affair in Malaga, it was not the scoreline which took its place front and centre in the chatter amongst Premier League fans.

Instead, this honour (or rather, dishonour) was reserved for Spain midfielder Rodri.

This came as the former Atletico Madrid man drew the wrath of the Arsenal faithful.

After somehow escaping punishment for a wild challenge on Martin Odegaard inside the hosts’ penalty area during the first-half, Rodri, and in turn, Pep Guardiola, were widely accused of attempting to injure the Gunners’ captain, in the process derailing the ongoing efforts of Mikel Arteta’s troops to dethrone Manchester City as Premier League champions.
