Preview for Nottingham Forest v Manchester City

Manchester City haven’t lost three Premier League games in a row since March 2016. Enzo Maresca will be desperate to keep it that way when his side travel to the City Ground on Saturday evening to face an Oliver Glasner team that can’t buy a goal.

City’s league form has stalled badly. After winning their first seven games of the season, they have lost back-to-back matches to Aston Villa and Brighton, and they have now gone three domestic games without winning in 90 minutes.

Wednesday’s Champions League win in Leipzig will have helped morale, Erling Haaland scoring the winner after 78 minutes from Elliot Anderson’s cross.

Anderson’s return to the City Ground adds an extra edge to this one. The midfielder joined City from Forest in the summer for a fee of £116million, and this will be his first game back at his old club.

City boss Enzo Maresca is expecting the England international to get a warm reception.

“What he has done there has been important,” he said. “The money he left there has been important. So I hope for him that he receives a good reception.

“It’s a big game for Elliot, but a big game for all of us – all the Premier League games are important. And then in terms of how much you pay for a player, it’s not the main thing. At the end, they are human beings, they are players, and the important thing is that he’s a very good player and helping us.”

City are still the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking team. They have scored 20 league goals and have the division’s highest expected goals total.

Forest’s problem is the opposite. They have taken 152 shots, the second-most in the league, and they have generated 14.34 expected goals, but they have scored just six times, the fewest in the division. Their shot conversion rate of 4% is the lowest in the league.

The pressure is building on Glasner. Forest have won only one Premier League game this season and have lost four of their last five, prompting Glasner to hold a “no compromises” team meeting demanding an immediate improvement.

City have the edge in recent meetings, winning five of the last seven against Forest.
