Why Arsenal’s move for David Raya isn’t guaranteed to happen

An update on Arsenal’s pursuit of David Raya has been provided.

As 101 covered on Tuesday, David Raya has agreed personal terms with Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar after the keeper already informed Brentford of his desire to head to the Emirates.

Raya is a proven Premier League goalkeeper who is excellent with the ball at his feet.

The Spaniard looks set to compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the no.1 spot at the Emirates in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, a deal is not as concrete as it may appear after Tuesday’s reports, with Fabrizio Romano casting some doubt over the move on Wednesday:

“David Raya has agreed personal terms with Arsenal. It’s a long term contract, and it’s just a verbal agreement for now, of course nothing is signed yet,” Romano said.

“Raya wants to go to Arsenal and Brentford have been informed of that. Arsenal wanted to create competition in that role but again, it’s not a done deal yet because it depends on the clubs. So we have to wait a bit longer before calling this a done deal.
