West Ham see opening Harry Maguire offer rejected by Manchester United

West Ham United have been rebuffed in an opening bid for a headline member of the defensive setup at Premier League rivals Manchester United, according to reports.

The Red Devils star in question? Harry Maguire.

The name of stopper Maguire, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the media headlines at the London Stadium over the course of the last fortnight.

This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the England international has been identified as a chief target on the part of the West Ham brass.

Maguire, of course, was recently stripped of captaincy duties at Old Trafford, hinting that a sufficient proposal for his services could prove enough to coax Man United into a sale.

West Ham, in turn, this week moved forward with an opening offer.

As confirmed late on Friday, however, the bid in question has since been knocked back by the powers that be at the Theatre of Dreams.

As per transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic:

‘West Ham United have seen a £20million ($25.8m) offer rejected for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.’

Though it is reiterated that David Moyes is keen to bring Maguire to east London this summer, Ornstein, significantly, adds that:

‘His salary could also be problematic for the Europa Conference League winners, making it doubtful they will bid again.’
