So far, the Red Devils have brought in three new names to the first-team this summer. First up, the Manchester outfit signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord on a four-year deal.
United are understood to have paid an initial Β£13m for the left-back, with a further Β£1.7m payable in add-ons.
Manchester United also secured the services of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Brentford.
Then, last week, Manchester Unitedβs signing of Lisandro Martinez was made official. The move sees Manchester United pay an initial Β£49m for the Argentine, but also includes Β£8.5m in add-ons and Β£2.2m in solidarity payments to Martinezβs former clubs.
Despite those three signings, though, it is clear Man United are still nowhere near the level of a Manchester City or Liverpool.
One man who seemingly agrees with this is Erik ten Hag.
βWe signed Eriksen for the midfield department, so we are really happy with that,β Ten Hag said. βAnd yes, I am really happy also with our performances of our midfield department and offensive department at this moment.
βBut I also know about this season – we talk about it in Bangkok and Melbourne – itβs a lot of games, the World Cup, so we need more options where you have a good team, and itβs not only about the team, you need a good squad to get the right results at the end of the season.
βSo we have to strengthen the squad even more and we are looking around but we also need the right players.
βThere is a reason in a number of games you need more options in offence, clear. I think itβs vital if you want to get success, the season is really long but we still also have time to fill that in.
βBack in Manchester Eriksen, Martinez will join in, we have more options, I think they can quite quickly integrate into the team.β
