Chelsea want £5 million for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Evening Standard.
The west London club signed the striker last summer for around £12 million from FC Barcelona.
The 34-year-old has agreed to join Marseille and even take a considerable pay cut in order to do so.
However, the French club want to sign him on a free transfer and the deal could now hinge on Chelsea letting him go for free.
The Blues are desperate to offload the striker and would save around £150,000-a-week by letting him go.
Should Chelsea stand firm over demanding a fee, Aubameyang could lose out financially as Marseille look to renegotiate his contract.
Talks between the parties remain ongoing with everyone keen to make the deal happen.
