‘On the same level as De Bruyne’ Arsenal and Manchester United target praised following excellent season start

The Red Devils target has enjoyed a fantastic beginning to his campaign.

One-time reported Arsenal and Manchester United transfer target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been compared to Manchester City superstar Kevin de Bruyne following yet another dominant display in Lazio colours at the weekend.

The Serbian was thought to be interesting both the Gunners and Erik ten Hag’s new side this summer, with the latter having held a long term fascination with the player in the eyes of the media. However, no move transpired, perhaps with clubs being put off by the £65m quoted price tag, and Milinkovic-Savic continued his stay in Rome.

And with it has come a continued set of strong performances, with the box-to-box midfielder having already racked up three goals and seven assists in nine Serie A matches, including a pair of assists against La Viola.

The performance drew rave reviews, none more so than from fellow Lazio star Ciro Immobile, a man who has also been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past.

“Trust me, Sergej Milinković-Savić is magic. He’s on the same level of Kevin de Bruyne”, the Italian striker told the media after Lazio’s third successive 4-0 win.

Stats seems to bear that claim out, with SMS behind only the Belgian midfielder in terms of assists across Europe’s top five leagues.

Still only 27 years-old, and with a contract due to expire in less than two years, his future will once more be front and centre this summer, with clubs undoubtedly sniffing around the Serbian should he become available at a cut-price.

And, having been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years, it does feel as though there is a story to be written in English football. Of course, Lazio fans will disagree.
