The player in question is Anthony Martial, who joined Manchester United in 2015 from AS Monaco and was tipped to be the next French megastar.
However, that has not panned out at all. The now 27-year-old has had several chances to stake a claim as the Red Devils’ main no.9, but on each occasion, he has come up short.
Martial spent much of 2022/23 on the sidelines and scored just six league goals this past season.
Manchester United have since signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta and he is expected to lead the line next term.
But as United have a limited budget, they are unlikely to sign another striker this summer, leaving Martial’s future up in the air.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Man United are still willing to sell the Frenchman if they receive a decent offer:
“At the moment, Anthony Martial is staying at Manchester United but I’d consider him in the same range of players as Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire – if he gets an important proposal, he could leave,” Romano wrote. “Otherwise, he’ll stay and be part of Erik Ten Hag’s rotation squad. That’s the feeling around Martial now.”
