Manchester United handed major boost in Cody Gakpo hunt

Manchester United could be set to secure a deal for PSV winger Cody Gakpo.

Cody Gakpo has spent his entire career on the books of hometown club, PSV.

The Eindhoven-native has featured on 145 occasions for PSV’s senior side. In these games, he has scored 45 and assisted 37.

Gakpo had a particularly fruitful 2021/22 season, which saw him notch 21 goals and provide 15 assists in 47 outings across all competitions – a fantastic return for a winger.

He has since carried that form into the current campaign where he has scored three and assisted four in six outings.

Gakpo, who made his senior Netherlands debut in June of 2021, is a natural left-winger. However, he is pretty versatile and is also more than capable of lining out through the middle, too.

This form has attracted the attention of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, who have been linked with Gakpo for the last few months.

And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a very positive update on United’s pursuit of the winger.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Romano said: “Cody Gakpo and his agents sent a clear message again on Monday to Manchester United – Gakpo wants the move, Gakpo wants Manchester United.

“He would be prepared to accept contract conditions, he would be super happy to move to the Premier League.

“Gakpo is ready to say yes to Manchester United, the same as Antony.”

Should Manchester United fail to agree a fee with Ajax for the abovementioned Antony, then Gakpo could be a cheaper alternative.
