Manchester United considering player plus cash deal for midfielder

Manchester United are considering a player plus cash deal to sign Ismael Bennacer this summer, according to reports.

The player potentially up for grabs in the swap deal is Donn van de Beek. The Dutchman has been an outcast at Old Trafford since his move from Ajax and spent the second half of 2021/22 on loan at Everton.

And whilst the arrival of Erik ten Hag, Van de Beek’s former boss, was expected to revive the midfielder’s United career, it is being reported by Italian outfit Calciomercatoweb that the appointment of Erik ten Hag might not have much impact on the future of Donny van de Beek it seems, as Manchester United are open to sacrificing him in an attempt to sign Ismael Bennacer.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong. However, despite Barca’s desire to cash in on the Dutchman, the player has appeared keen on prolonging his stay at Camp Nou, as he is currently sitting on a lucrative contract.

This has led to Manchester United turning their attentions towards other targets, one of which is seemingly Milan’s Bennacer.

Ten Hag himself had this to say on United’s pursuit of a holding midfielder:

“We are looking for a player who can play in the holding position,” Ten Hag said, as per the Daily Mirror, “But it has to be the right one.

“I will not react on a certain player. We need the right player. We have a list and we qualify as the player who has the competence to play that role. We will strike the moment the player is available.”
