Manchester United boss Erik ten hag targeting second Everton star

Erik ten Hag has added a second Everton star to his transfer wishlist.

It was reported earlier this week by the Mirror that if Manchester United fail to get David de Gea’s new contract over the line, Erik Hag will move for Jordan Pickford to replace the Spanish goalkeeper.

A move for Pickford does make some sense for Manchester United. The England international can make mistakes at times, but he has also produced a number of top displays for club and country.

Most importantly, though, Pickford is good at playing out from the back – an ability that has played a role in him maintaining his no.1 spot for the Three Lions for so long. De Gea, meanwhile, is not great with the ball at his feet, which has limited Ten Hag’s preferred game plan at times this season.

And now, Football Insider are reporting that Man United are keeping tabs on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana ahead of a potential move this summer.

United need a second proper defensive midfielder to rotate with card-happy Casemiro and Onana would be a wise choice.

The Belgian is under contract with Everton until 2027. No potential fee is mentioned in the report but if the Toffees go down, it is safe to assume any transfer fee would be lessened.
