The player in question is AS Monaco defender, Axel Disasi.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have approached the player and his representatives this week and they are expected to make contact with Monaco as well.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, is said to have already approved a move for the 25-year-old central defender and the Red Devils have held talks with the player’s representatives as well.
Disasi joined Monaco from Stade de Reims in 2020, and has since gone on to feature for the club 121 times, including in several European games.
The centre-back, who is currently under contract until 2025, was also handed the captain’s armband several times in 2021/22 and 2022/23, despite being 25 years of age.
No potential transfer fee is mentioned in the report from Fabrizio Romano.
Should Disasi make the switch to Old Trafford, he would likely rotate with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, with Victor Lindelof 4th choice and Harry Maguire then surplus to requirements.
