Man United handed major boost in pursuit of Ajax’s Antony

The powers that be in Amsterdam are ready to punish their wantaway attacker

Premier League giants Manchester United have, on Saturday, been afforded a boost in their efforts to land a prime transfer target.

The player in question? Antony.

Reports linking Brazilian international Antony with a move to Old Trafford have of course resurfaced in a major way of late.

Amid ongoing efforts on the part of the powers that be on the red half of Manchester to reinforce the club’s frontline, the 22-year-old has been identified as the ideal addition on the part of former boss Erik ten Hag.

Having already lost star defender Lisandro Martinez to the Red Devils this summer, though, Ajax, thus far, have remained staunch in their stance that Antony simply isn’t for sale.

In fact, reports in the media earlier this week went as far as to suggest that the Dutch champions had rebuffed an €80 million offer from United.

If ensuing word over the course of the last 24 hours is anything to go by, however, then it appears that Antony himself does not share his club’s enthusiasm when it comes to prolonging their relationship beyond the close of the summer window.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the talented winger had refused to take part in a training session alongside the rest of his teammates.

This comes amid the understanding that Antony has his heart set on a move to the Premier League.

And, as alluded to above, late on Saturday night, Man United’s hopes of clinching a big-money deal for the Brazilian international have been afforded yet another boost.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Alfred Schreuder and his coaching staff have come to the decision that Antony will not be part of Ajax’s starting XI to face Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, as punishment for his recent behaviour.

In turn, it is reiterated that the former Sao Paulo talent ‘wants Manchester United’.
