Liverpool ready to rival Man United for Cody Gakpo

A fresh insight into the future of in-demand PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo has been forthcoming on Thursday.

Gakpo, of course, has seen his name cast firmly into the spotlight over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This comes with the explosive wide-man having built on a scintillating opening to the campaign at club level by announcing himself firmly onto the world stage, too.

Across appearances in each of the Netherlands’ World Cup group stage fixtures, Gakpo clinched a spot atop the Golden Boot charts, courtesy of a trio of goals.

More than one outlet on the continent even went as far as to suggest that Gakpo is all set to make the move to England, after the powers that be at Manchester United struck a big-money deal with PSV for his services.

Such claims have since been firmly denied, though, with a further update on the situation having arrived on Thursday evening.

The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Italia journalist reports that United are set to be imminently joined in the race for Gakpo’s signature by arch rivals Liverpool.

This comes as the Reds aim to add reinforcements across the pitch, on the back of a less-than-impressive campaign to date.

Significantly, though, it is also suggested that any such transfer battle for Gakpo is unlikely to take place until the summer.
