For many years it seemed as though then Napoli stopper Kalidou Koulibaly was being linked with the Premier League.
The Senegalese star had dominated in the Serie A for years and garnered the interest of some top English clubs.
Manchester City were interested in Koulibaly a few years back, but negotiating a fee proved difficult and the Sky Blues instead signed Ruben Dias.
Koulibaly eventually made the move to England last summer in a cut-price deal with Chelsea.
The now 31-year-old was a key figure for the Blues last term and at the start of 2022/23.
However, he has since become something of a bit-part player in west London, garnering only 12 minutes of league action in the last four games.
“Kalidou Koulibaly is not the same player we saw at Napoli for many years, he was incredible in Serie A and he’s still adapting to the Premier League,” Romano stated. “I’m told Chelsea still want to protect him and he was never close to Inter or any other club in January. Let’s see in the summer.”
