Chelsea offer contract to star but face issue

Chelsea have offered one of their young talents a new deal.

The player in question is Levi Colwill.

20-year-old Levi Colwill spent the 2022/23 season on loan in the Premier League with Brighton.

The Seagulls secured a Europa League place for the first time in their history with the centre-back playing an important role.

He has since linked up with England’s under-21 team to compete for the European Championship.

Colwill will return to Chelsea after the tournament with his future somewhat up in the air.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have offered Levi Colwill a new contract but the defender wants talks with Mauricio Pochettino before deciding his future.

It is added the youngster wants clarity over his squad role and will first speak to Pochettino, who begins work as manager on July 3.

Pochettino is a known admirer of Colwill and holds the key to unlocking the contract impasse.

But should Pochettino opt to play a four-back formation next term, all of Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah stand in the way of Colwill earning regular minutes.
