According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have submitted a second bid for the transfer of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber as they aim to get the deal completed this week.
It is claimed that the Gunners have already agreed personal terms with Timber on a five-year contract, while they also saw an opening offer of £30m for him turned down by Ajax.
Should Arsenal secure a move for Timber, he is expected to rotate with William Saliba and Gabriel at the heart of their backline.
The north Londoners missed out on the Premier League title last season after a pretty major collapse beginning in April, which also happened to coincide with a long-term injury to William Saliba.
This saw Arsenal forced to play Rob Holding on a more regular basis, and it is not at all surprising that the Gunners looked poorer without Saliba in the team.
However, now they look set to land a player of Timber’s quality, something like that is less likely to happen in the future.
The potential signing of the Dutchman also likely means Ben White will remain at right-back for the forthcoming campaign.
