Arsenal ready a move for Southampton starlet Roméo Lavia

The 19-year-old Belgian international was one of the only bright spots at Saints in 2022-23, and one of a number of key assets that will be looking to leave the club this summer in the wake of relegation

Arsenal look to continue their summer transfer extravaganza after adding Kai Havertz and nearing a completed record transfer for Declan Rice as the Gunners are reportedly preparing to move for Belgian international midfield starlet Roméo Lavia.

According to reports from The Times’ Tom Allnutt, Mikel Arteta and club technical director Edu Gaspar are planning to turn to St. Mary’s Stadium for their next summer move after the club officially bid farewell to Bayer Leverkusen-bound veteran Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The 19-year-old Belgian international was one of the only bright spots at Saints in 2022-23 and one of a number of key assets that will be looking to leave the club this summer in the wake of relegation.

In order to secure a move for the former Manchester City and RSC Anderlecht youngster, Southampton has slapped a £50m price tag on the technically crafty holding midfielder, with Arsenal having to lock horns with league rivals Chelsea and Manchester United if they are to get their man.

The added possibility of Ghanaian international Thomas Partey also departing the club makes the acquisition of a third midfielder this summer of vital importance for Arteta as the Gunners are set to raise both the talent floor as well as the talent ceiling while also adding depth in quality given added commitments in the Champions League in 2023-24.
