Arsenal made ‘big mistake’ letting player go pundit claims

A pundit his hit out at Arsenal for letting a player go last summer.

Arsenal made a big mistake letting goalkeeper Bernd Leno leave and join Fulham, according to talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino:

“I think, and this one’s a little bit more controversial, I think Leno was a big mistake for Arsenal to let go,” he said on talkSPORT.

“I thought Leno was a better keeper than Ramsdale. Now, a lot of people will disagree with me. But I didn’t think there was a lot to choose from them. I thought they were very close on the levels. Leno’s had a terrific season for Fulham.”

Leno began the 2021/22 campaign as Arsenal’s no.1 shot-stopper, with then new signing Aaron Ramsdale expected to play back up to the German.

However, Leno was swiftly dropped by Mikel Arteta after the opening three games of the season. The Gunners lost three on the bounce, shipping nine goals in the process.

From then on, Ramsdale has cemented himself as Arsenal’s no.1 goalkeeper, with Leno only making a further five appearances in the remainder of 2021/22.

The former Bayer Leverkusen keeper went on to join Fulham and had an excellent debut campaign. The German has kept eight clean sheets compared to Ramsdale’s 13 but is in a worse side.
