Arsenal eye £40m-rated Premier League midfielder ahead of summer

Arsenal are looking to improve their midfield in the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal need cover in the centre of their midfield ahead of 2022/23 when Mohamed Eleney and Albert Sambi Lokonga are likely to depart and have been linked with another name recently.

The Daily Mail claim that Southampton are facing a battle to hold onto their impressive teenage midfielder Romeo Lavia beyond this season with interest growing.

It is added that Manchester United are now among his admirers while Arsenal are understood to have shown interest too, with both sides assessing their options ahead of moves to strengthen in central midfield this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has also spoken out on Arsenal’s links to the Saints star, with it speculated that Lavia will cost upwards of £40m due to Manchester City having a buyback clause of £40m after they sold him to Southampton:

“Nothing has changed for Romeo Lavia, at the moment,” Romano explained. “It’s normal to see big clubs linked because he’s a top talent but there’s nothing concrete at this stage.

“It’s fair to remember that Man City have £40m buy back clause for Lavia, so value has to be higher for sure.”
