Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s proposed move to Wolves is reportedly off.

The deal for the England stopper is thought to be too expensive for the Midlands outfit and is considered over, according to BBC Sport.

Ramsdale is seeking first-team football this season after losing his place to David Raya and Molineux had emerged as a destination to get that.

But the 26-year-old will now have to look elsewhere as he seeks a new club before Friday’s transfer deadline.

One of those teams could be Southampton, with Fabrizio Romano indicating the promoted side have Ramsdale on their list of targets.

The North Londoners are keen to agree a deal which includes an obligation to buy the custodian at the end of the loan, which complicates things as Saints are looking for a straight loan.

Wolves had reportedly made a £20million loan-to-buy offer and were locked in talks with the Gunners over the weekend.

The five-cap international cost Arsenal £24m from Sheffield United in 2021 and has two years remaining on his contract.

Wolves are strapped for cash despite the sales of Max Kilman and Pedro Neto this summer but Gary O’Neil did not warn out more arrivals before Friday’s deadline.

“When it shuts we need to be comfortable with where we are,” he said after their 6-2 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

“There’s a lot of work for myself and I need to get more out of the group we have.

“Then there’s an understanding the Premier League is tough and if you sell good players it makes you weaker.”
