Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says the Premier League champions are still hoping to sign more players before the start of the season.
New signing Bruno Guimaraes impressed after his £75m switch from Newcastle as the Gunners beat Serie A side Como in a friendly on Wednesday night.
Arsenal have also signed winger Christos Tzolis this summer but were not able to recruit Vinicius Jr from Real Madrid.
And Leandro Trossard and Christian Norgaard have moved on to leave Arteta looking for more.
He said: “There is more that we want to do. Every time we have an opportunity to improve the quality of the squad we need to do that.
“The will and the desire of the club is unquestionable. We want to try and do that. We cannot promise that will do it because it does not only depend on us.
“Let’s see if Bruno can start this weekend, he only had three training sessions but he looked good. He was pushing to play minutes and play in front of our fans. You sense a strong connection immediately.”
Arsenal face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday.
The Gunners have won the Shield on 17 occasions, with this season’s match being played in Cardiff.
Arteta said: “It was a very good test against Como. It was a bit tricky today as we play a final on Sunday. To play the players and not expose them too much.
“They perform at a really high level. The scoreline should have been different, and that is where we have to improve.”
