Brilliant Brahim solo goal gives Real Madrid friendly win

Real Madrid continued their pre-season preparation with a 1-0 win over Deportivo.

Bernardo Silva impressed in midfield, with Brahim Diaz scoring the only goal with a wonderful solo effort before half time.

Jude Bellingham was not involved but Vinicius Jr started after his summer-long transfer links with Arsenal.

The Brazil forward signed a new six-year contract at Real last week, with the club calling the 26-year-old “one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history”.

Vinicius had one effort well cleared in a scrappy first half before Diaz opened the scoring just before the interval with a brilliant solo goal.

The Morocco attacker was sent clear by a quick throw from goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, and after chesting the ball down he ran clear of the defence to fire in neatly.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was among the half-time changes for Real, playing alongside Denzel Dumfries, with the Dutchman soon going close with a powerful header.

Lunin made an excellent late double save as Jose Mourinho’s side took the win.

Madrid’s La Liga campaign starts at Espanyol on August 22 (20:30 BST). Deportivo host Elche on August 17 (20:00).
