Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen gives update on his future

Where will Vertonghen end up?

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has given an update on his future, with the Belgian’s contract set to expire this summer.

Vertonghen’s future has been brought into question during recent months.

The Belgian has struggled at times this season, and isn’t exactly a mainstay under Jose Mourinho.

With his contract set to expire, Vertonghen has now been linked with a move away from north London.

Inter Milan have reportedly been in contact, while Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that the Dutch giants are following Vertonghen’s situation.

“Of course we are following his situation very closely, but you also have to look at the position in which someone plays,” he explained.

Now, Vertonghen has opened up on his future.

Vertonghen weighing up the pros and cons

Speaking to Belgian show De Kleedkamer, as cited by the Mirror, Vertonghen explained that he is weighing up the pros and cons of his options.

“I’m in a process right now that I have to grab a piece of paper and write down the pros and cons of the options I will have soon,” he explained.

“I will really have to decide what I want in my career. In three to four years, I will normally return to the place where I will likely settle down.

“I have to start thinking about where I still want to live, what language I want to learn, what culture I still want to live in.

“And also, very importantly, which competitions and prizes I still want to win. I don’t want to regret anything in my career.”

Despite questions over the stopper’s future, Jose Mourinho claimed in February that Vertonghen still remains firmly in his plans.

However, as the summer approaches, Vertonghen’s future at Spurs looks firmly in doubt.
