Viewers of this evening’s clash between Rochdale and Tottenham have taken to Twitter to single one Spurs’ star out for particularly heavy abuse, after Mauricio Pochettino’s men incredibly fell behind to their lowly opponents.
The two sides are currently locked in action at the Spotland Stadium, with hosts Rochdale coming into proceedings glued to the bottom of the League One table with just 25 points from their 28 league outings to this point in the campaign.
Tottenham, meanwhile, travelled to Spotland full of confidence, having come back from 2 goals down to earn a crucial 2-2 draw with Italian giants Juventus in the Champions League during the week, with the North Londoners having also put both Manchester United and Arsenal to the sword in the Premier League over recent weeks.

Unsurprisingly, ahead of kick-off, fans and pundits alike labelled visitors Tottenham as absolute favourites this evening, with the absence of the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli from the starting lineup of the capital giants not expected to prove particularly detrimental to the hopes of Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
As such, as the first-half wore on, and Rochdale continually snuffed out the attacks of their illustrious opponents, the slightest glimmer of hope on the part of the home side began to come to the fore.
The Dale grew into the game as the first-half wore on, and, incredibly, were rewarded for their stellar efforts just before the interval, as Ian Henderson finished off a brilliant flowing break from the hosts, sending Keith Hill’s men into the break a goal to the good.
While a number of Spurs’ stars looked some way short of their best throughout the opening hour this evening, one player who was singled out for particular abuse online was striker Fernando Llorente.
The Spaniard looked laboured in his movement and lacking confidence with the ball at his feet, and wasted the best opportunity for the away side over the course of the opening 45 minutes with a screwed effort wide of the right-hand post.
Twitter users have since been ruthless in their assessments of the former Swansea man’s showing, with the best roundup below:
If we subbed off Llorente for no one, we’d win this 4-0

If I was stuck for a spare man for a 5-a-side game I don’t think I’d even ask Llorente to step in.

You could give Llorente viagra, lock him in a room full of horny prostitutes and he still couldn’t score 💊🤦♀️
