Tottenham official attends Porto match to watch long-time target

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, an official from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur attended last night’s Primeira Liga matchup between Porto and Estoril, with the scout reportedly watching full-back Ricardo Pereira.

New recruits

Following the big-money departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City last month, Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements at right-back.

English international Kieran Trippier performed brilliantly when called upon by boss Mauricio Pochettino last season, but, with the North London club aiming to compete on four fronts once again next season, the Argentinian has set his sights on competition for places at every position on the pitch.

Standout performer

The board at White Hart Lane have been on the lookout for a worthy candidate to challenge Trippier for several months now (with Walker’s departure having been anticipated), and have reportedly earmarked highly-regarded Portuguese talent Ricardo Pereira as their no.1 target.

The versatile 23-year-old spent the past two seasons on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice from parent club Porto, excelling both at right and left back (where he can fill in when needed) as Les Aiglons secured a shock Champions League spot for next season.

It was claimed that the North London outfit made an official offer for Pereira in June, though the 15 million Euro bid proved some way short of Porto’s 25 million Euro asking price.

However, with the Premier League giants having scouted the highly sought-after Portuguese international once again last night, a new and improved bid is expected to be forthcoming.
